Welcome to the Stopsley Flyers website.

This site is here to provide an array of information about power kiting at the Regional Sports Center in Stopsley, Luton. Whether you are thinking about coming to Stopsley for the first time, or if you are a regular checking up on what is currently going on, then this is the site for you.

General Information And Some Common Sense Rules...

Stopsley Regional Sports Center is set in approximately 60 acres of sporting field space. Most of this is football pitches and cricket pitches, but it is ok to fly around and across the football pitches when there are no matches on (just watch out for the goalposts if they are up). The majority of the normal flying zone is in the middle of the football pitches, and during the football season these can be quite mapbusy so please be aware of anyone involved in the matches. Do not encroach onto the pitches while a match is in progress. Also, please do not ride over the cricket squares, which are easily recognisable in this map. This is one thing that the sports center has stipulated that we must not do. Please click the map for a larger version in a new window.

Please do not fly near the sports hall or the car park. You will only get your kite caught in the many trees and floodlights.

Do not leave anything in the middle of the field; kites, buggies, boards or ground stakes; please use the area by the fence for landing your kites etc.

The basic safety rules while flying are those in force at any flying site....

  • Your kite must have a working safety release and you must know how to use it.
  • When passing - If you are upwind, your kite goes high, downwind and your kite goes low
  • In the case of a head on collision, if you are going right to left, you turn upwind and your kite goes high; if you are going left to right, you turn downwind and your kite goes low.

3rd party insurance is definitely recommended, as this is a public field, there are usually a number of dog walkers, sportsmen, bike riders etc, who may not understand how getting in the way can be extremely dangerous. For insurance companies, please check out the links page.

Most importantly though - HAVE FUN!!!
